2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Mixed Reception

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

The news follows a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the full message from the president's memo:

Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a sharper brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having spent the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary states. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an announced debut schedule or consoles, but players can look forward to more updates as creation continues.
